Pauline Akol
Pauline is pursuing a certificate in Hospitality Management at Howard Community College. She clearly demonstrates a sincere motivation to succeed, as well as a deep understanding and love of the Hospitality Industry. With her strong communication skills and desire to provide excellent customer service to others, we are certain that this rewarding industry is the perfect fit for Pauline and her son.
Pauline’s goal is to become a General Manager. She strongly believes she demonstrates leadership, drive and integrity by showing professionalism in many ways…like always being on time for class; perfect attendance; all assignments turned in by the deadline, and active class participation. Pauline also has excellent grades!

Senan has achieved with honors an Associate of Arts in Hospitality Management from Montgomery College, Rockville, MD, and he is now pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality & Tourism Management from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore-Shady Grove Campus.
Dr. Boger also shares with all of you that Senan has definitely started to make his mark by being elected the 2018-2019 President of the Shade Grove UMES Campus Chapter, National Society of Minorities in Hospitality.
We also congratulate Senan for his strong leadership and communication skills, and love of this industry. We wish Senan and his wife, Halima, a wonderful year and very successful future, which the MTEF Board will continue to follow and celebrate!
Pauline and Senan show that the students we are trying to inspire with our scholarships are the ones that end up inspiring us. In fact, it just may be that our lives are even more positively impacted than theirs.

As a child, I was raised in a single mother household. I quickly learned the value of money and education. I have two older sisters who are both currently attending colleges in the United States. We all share the same drive for knowledge and success. However my career choice is very different from both of theirs. I have already started my schooling at our local technical high school in the culinary program with Chef Paul Suplee. I am planning on attending the Culinary Institute of America in June this year. —Shawnna Giles

Lindsay is the Founder and CEO of Cupcakes by Frosted. She started baking at 12 years old and it has become part of her lifestyle. She plans on developing a stand-alone location when she graduates from College. Plans are to attend Salisbury University in the Fall.
Lindsay shows leadership skills, responsibility, and ambition that are rarely seen in recent college students. Since the age of 12 years old she has been responsible for taking and filling orders for her own cupcake business. She has sought after advisement to create a marketing plan and business model running a successful business. I see great potential in her future.

She is anxious to open Violet’s Bakery to pursue her dream of giving back to the community through an outreach program which will help those involved gain self-confidence, valuable experience and skills. Her dream is that this will inspire them to “give back” to the community as well.
Elizabeth also leads with her beautiful smile. A triplet – we were sure to thank her parents for providing her the opportunities to allow her to excel in life.
