Sesan Mudashiru, 2013 Scholarship Recipient

Recipient Sesan Mudashiru is currently enrolled in his second year as a Hospitality Management student at Montgomery College in Rockville, MD. “My goal is to transfer to the University of Maryland to study for a Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, after completing my Associate degree next year, 2014” wrote Sesan in his application for the MTEF scholarship.

Sesan believes that “working in the hospitality industry was the best thing that has ever happened to me. Growing up, I used to  admire people who could stand up in the midst of a large crowd and speak with a loud and commanding voice, people who connect with other people with little or no effort. Little did I know that it was actually true that practice makes perfect, and that self-discovery happens not by being passive but by making an effort.

Working at the Best Western as a front desk agent after high school, Sesan discovered that he was a natural orator, a people person who actually enjoys talking to people. He found his voice and discovered his calling! Since then, Sesan never looked back. He currently works as a night auditor for the Eldon Luxury Suites in Washington, DC, while completing his degree.

Sesan is raising his nine-year-old son as he works full-time.

When told about his award, Sesan replied with thanks for the entire board, “finding me worthy of the scholarship. I will continue to work and study hard, as I strongly believe this award would go a long way in helping me to achieve my educational goals”.

Congratulations, Sesan! We look forward to following your career path and know that you will continue to be successful in the tourism industry.
