On a sunny Annapolis morning in June 2008, Matthew Cruder became the first recipient of the Maryland Tourism Education Scholarship. A crewman on the Schooner Woodwind, Cruder is pursuing a degree in Recreation & Tourism Management with a minor in Management. Upon graduation, he plans to become one of the Bay’s new captains of maritime experiences and excitement. Dave Meloy, Chairman of MTEF, is shown presenting the scholarship to Matt on the Schooner Woodwind, a 74 foot charter sailing vessel out of Annapolis Harbor where he works while preparing for his dream.
If you find the right job, you never have to work a day in your life, and that’s what I intend to do, said Matt Cruder, from Severna Park, Maryland. My love of sailing and my love of people have steered me towards a career in the tourism business. My idea is to start my own company doing private boat charters.
